Getting Around Evanston on Race Day
A few of the main streets of downtown Evanston will be rerouted on Sunday, July 20, as the city hosts the 2009 NorthShore Grand Prix. The map below shows:
- Race course (closed street sections marked in red)
- Additional street closings for rider and spectator safety (tan)
- Detour for Chicago Ave., Sherman Ave. and Orrington Ave. (green)
- CTA (purple) and Metra (blue) lines and stations
- Parking garages throughout the downtown area
Restaurants and stores will be open for business (with the exception of those which might normally be closed on a Sunday). Traffic seeking access to the Hotel Orrington will be allowed east-bound on Church Street and across the course under police supervision. Additional police officers will provide vehicular access at other key locations.
The map will also be available in the Official Program for the race distributed onsite throughout the day. Or, download the Race Day Map PDF here which includes details about street closures and access for local businesses.
Thanks to all Evanstonians and our neighbors for accommodating any inconveniences. Your support, patience and enthusiasm are vital to bringing this wonderful event to our community.
